Presented below are some detailed photos of a working "hero" Type II pistol phaser constructed by prop maker Brad Nelson for the ill-fated Star Trek: Phase II television series project (Paramount, 1977); an endeavor initially intended as a follow up to Star Trek: The Original Series that ultimately transitioned into the highly anticipated Star Trek: The Motion Picture feature film of 1979. This elaborately constructed prop was composed primarily of aluminum with machined acrylic tip and gauges; and consisted of three main assemblies - the removable Type I hand phaser unit, the main Type II body, and the removable handle / energy pack.
