It is a distinct pleasure for this site to present the following set of detailed photos to document one of the most attractive and memorable costume designs in the history of the Star Trek franchise - the elegant burgundy seude command division jacket created specifically for wear by Patrick Stewart alone to allow the Enterprise D Captain to stand out from the rest of the starship crew in the same fashion that William Shatner's green wraparound tunic was a unique wardrobe accompaniment of the TOS era Captaincy. Created by TNG Costume Designer Robert Blackman, this exceptional garment features banded suede accents at the cuffs and waist and black fabric quilted shoulders. Five hook and eye closures are concealed at the bottom interior of the jacket, which allow the costume to present a dramatic V shaped central contour down the front chest when the garment is "closed". This stunning jacket was seen in many of the most critically acclaimed episodes of the series, including "Darmok", "Unification" and "The Inner Light". Following the modern day images of this costume are some screen captures of it as worn by Patrick Stewart in "Unification, Part I" (first airdate: Nov. 4, 1991) as well as "The Inner Light" (first airdate: June 1, 1992).
My very special thanks to a friend and long-time, major American collector of Star Trek props and costumes for graciously photographing this costume especially for this website presentation.
