Star Trek Original Series Phaser Rifle Sells For $231,000 at Julien's
Just moments ago, the historic Phaser Rifle prop from the TOS 2nd pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (original airdate: Sep. 22, 1966), wielded by William Shatner in his first performance as Captain James T. Kirk, realized a final sales price of $231,000 as Lot 120 in Julien's 2013 Hollywood Legends entertainment memorabilia auction! The final price consists of a high bid of $192,500 and a 20% buyers premium of $38,500. This remarkable result makes the Phaser Rifle the most expensive Star Trek hand prop ever sold at auction.
On June 27, 2002, Captain Kirk's Original Series Command Chair from the Bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise sold at Profiles In History's historic Robert Justman Star Trek Auction for $304,750; and in the October 5-7, 2006 Christie's 40th Anniversary Star Trek Auction, the 6.5 foot Enterprise D filming miniature built for Star Trek: The Next Generation realized a final sales price of $576,000.
The exciting emergence of the TOS Phaser Rifle at auction was the topic of an earlier article on this site which may be seen at the following link: http://www.startrekpropauthority.com/2013/03/star-trek-original-series-william.html
