The historic two day sale of Hollywood memorabilia from the estate of Academy award nominated artist and renowned TOS expert/collector Greg Jein concluded yesterday with a live online bidding session at the HeritageLive! (www.HA.com/Live) auction site and truly witnessed some spectacular final sales results. The entire auction generated $13,610,156 in total sales, which actually surpassed the nearly $11 million total realized in the famous three day Julien's Marilyn Monroe auction held in November, 2016. A record setting price of $3.135 million was realized for Jein's screen-matched Hero "Red Leader" X-wing Starfighter filming miniature from the Star Wars: Episode IV-A New Hope (1977), that was used in the memorable final battle and trench run scenes of the film.
With respect to the 283 lots of Star Trek memorabilia offered in the sale - which included an astounding 132 lots of Original Series props, costumes and production material - a total of 12 lots realized a final sales price of $100,000 or higher. The single most expensive Star Trek item sold was Lot #89150, the 22" long TOS Galileo Shuttlecraft filming miniature, which witnessed a final price of $225,000 (including a 25% buyers premium). Both Lot #89160, the 44" long TOS Botany Bay spacecraft filming miniature from the iconic episode "Space Seed", and Lot #89121, an extensive collection of over 300 production scripts from Star Trek: The Original Series, each realized a final price of $200,000. The TOS Hero Type-2 Phaser Pistol sold for $187,500; while the Wah Chang-built TOS Hero Tricorder witnessed a final value of $175,000 and a TOS Communicator prop realized a final price of $150,000.
